IZIER

“I’m here to pick up an order for Izier Valenti.”

I had just walked into Cheesecake Factory and was glad I had placed a to-go order because it was packed. The smell of freshly baked cheesecake wafted up to the counter, tantalizing my senses and making my mouth water. I rubbed my stomach as a light growl escaped. I was starving because I hadn’t eaten anything all day.

There was so much going on here. The servers were moving between tables with grace, and the air was full of laughter. I could hear a few conversations. If I hadn’t been so tired, I would have asked Passion to join me so that we could dine in. I looked around, appreciating the colorful décor and lively ambiance of the restaurant. There were so many deserts on display that I wanted to buy them all. I knew that Passion would kill me, though, if I came home with all that. I laughed to myself as the thought crossed my mind to go ahead and buy them. My mouth was watering at just thought. Cheesecake is my favorite dessert, so I was drawn to buy the vibrant cheesecake slices. This restaurant was heaven for cheesecake lovers.

I looked at my Patek watch for the time. I had been here almost ten minutes. I knew that if I had to stay any longer, I would add a few more slices to my order. Finally, the waitress handed me my neatly wrapped food.

“I apologize for the wait. I threw an extra slice of cake in there for your inconvenience.” I guess she had read my mind. I am happy now. I reached for my wallet and pulled out a hundred-dollar bill and handed it to her. “Would you like some change, sir?”

“Nah, that is for you, sweetheart.”

“Thank you so much. I wish I could hug you. You don’t know how bad I need this money right now.”

“What do you need it for?”

“I’m in college and need it to buy my books. I was over here trying to figure it out and look at God. All I did was be nice to you.”

“Where are your parents?”

“I never knew them. I was a ward of the state all my life. I bounced around from foster home to foster home.”

I reached back into my wallet. I knew that I had at least a thousand in cash on me. “Here… all you owe me is to graduate. You have a good rest of your night.”

I walked out the door and got in my car. Life is crazy. You never know what other people are going through. I smiled at the fact that I was able to help her. She seemed like a nice kid.

When I walked in the door, I could hear Passion in our bedroom. I washed my hands and took our food out of the bag. I placed it on a tray and then grabbed two water bottles from the refrigerator. When I walked into the room, Passion was sitting up, flipping channels.
